Inadvertently photographs have been taped, glued and placed into photo albums that were made without consideration to the long-term effects to the images themselves.

A couple of questions for your consideration:

The digital photo restoration industry has been transforming along with technological advances in computers, software, cameras, printers and scanners. Scanning your photo collection will provide time for restoration actions to take place.


A first step to protect your heirlooms would be to acquire high resolution digital scansofdamaged photographic collections to provide a backup system in cases of loss or further damage to the original documents. Before scanning, sort photo collections into categories such as family groups, age of photos, vacations or any other meaningful descriptions of your choice. During the sorting process, identify priority photos - the most delicate, rare or those with special memories. These priority photos should be the first to be digitally documented.

When scanning images use higher resolutions, 300dpi at minimum, 500-600 is much better.  The higher resolution scanning requires more time, but it is worth it.
